A look inside Gearhead Detailing

Gearhead detailing is a local company to the Treasure Valley in Idaho that deals in high end paint correction, exterior detailing, and ceramic coatings. The company has been owned and operated by Brian Prescott for nearly 10 years. Starting when he was 19 out of his garage for friends and family Brian worked his way up to detailing vehicles such as Porsches, Classic muscle cars, Supra's and everything in between.

Brian was kind enough to let me hangout for a day at the shop whilst he worked on what ended up being a 3 day project for a customer. Showing up at around 6 a.m. and working until mid afternoon Brian put in a lot of time on this truck however he was happy to do it as he knows that the owner would love how it looked afterwards. With massive swirls all around the truck it was a treat to see how much attention was put into the truck to make it look brand new again and have Brian explain his process as he did it. This truck gave me the perfect opportunity to show how much of an impact a good detail makes!

In the top pictures you can see a very distinct line where Brian ran a test section before starting the whole detail. That's only one step of a multiple step process that was done on the entire truck and it's already worlds better. The other gentleman here with Brian is a local detailing product vendor Mark Webber. Mark got a call from Brian a few minutes after I showed up because one of Brian's tools had broken. Mark showed up a lot faster than expected and even started helping with the detail to also showcase some new products.

Now when I say product vendor, think the Matco guy for a mechanic, but for detailers like Brian. Mark's truck has any tool or product you would need and his wealth of knowledge on the products he carries really makes you appreciate the guys who keep businesses like this stocked up. Not only is Mark a supplier for Brian but after 30 seconds of them chatting I could tell they were great friends as well. Building relationships like this is huge when you're a small business for situations like what happened when Brian's main tool breaks on such a big project.

Something that not many of Brian's customers would know is that he's always looking for a better way to perfect his work or a better product to use on his customer's vehicles. He keeps his product shelf tidy and has his go to's for most of his work but it continues to grow with new products every so often. Not only that but Brian researches detailing channels on youtube, attends meetings and workshops with other detailers, and also goes to shows like SEMA to check out new products from major companies and learn new techniques.

Not only is Brian a wizard when it comes to making paint look brand new but he's also a big automotive enthusiast making it much more comforting to have him take care of your pride and joy's paint. Having heard about this car before I was very excited to see it in person. What you're seeing is Brian's forever car, a 1972 Chevy Nova. Brian bought the car on Christmas day when he was 17 years old after saving up for one. Owning the car ever since he's put in countless hours and money making into something he really loves. With a built 350, correctly fitted with a big loping cam and a 700R4 this Nova is a bonafide cruiser that can also upset most cars on the street.

Giving her one more rip before getting put away for the winter Brian was kind enough to show me just how quick this car is. This car is a prime example of a clean, mean, well built classic with a lot of attitude. Now that this car is at a good point to take a break from (because let's be real no car is ever "done") Brian bought something he's been eyeing for months waiting for the price to go down. What you see here is a 1966 Chevy II Wagon with a whole lot of character.

As you can see the car has quite a bit of rust and the paint is destroyed all over the car but the body is pretty sound, it's got some seats and a steering wheel, and came with an entire parts car as part of the deal. Only took Brian a day or two to get it running with what he believes is a 327 under the hood and it gets plenty of looks. We even had a guy in the middle of traffic try to buy it off Brian right then and there but having just bought it, he can't part with it that easily. Not only that, but the plans he has in store for this ol' wagon are gonna be killer. I thought the coupe was plenty fast, but that's not quite enough for Brian.

Big thank you to Brian for taking time out of two seperate days so I could shoot his craft, and his joys at home. I'll have to revisit this big blue wagon once it's closer to the wild image Brian has in his head for it.

You can follow the progress on the wagon here @shagn_wagn on instagram Also follow @gearheaddetailing for more mirror finish vehicles from Brian And as always, thank you for viewing and supporting the page! @luckyclub.us Extras Below!
