A 964 to casually troll the purists

The wild world that is the classic Porsche market today has lead to quite the feud between those that want to save the cars that aren't modified, and those that want to continue to enjoy their cars while making them their own. Purists, the ones who want to leave cars as they came from the factory, have a sort of air about them that can either make or break a friendship. In the world of classic Porsches if your car is modified the purists turn their nose up at you for disrespecting the purity of their favorite cars. However there is an entire community of people who love to modify their vehicles and make them their own.

Old 911's have been on a huge rise in value over the past 10 years. Back then you could find them for almost nothing compared to other classic sports cars in the market. However with the increase in popularity as most realized their potential, the price has sky rocketed to rarely less than 30 thousand for a regular 964. This isn't much compared to the price increase in the top models like the 911 Turbo's which can't be found under 6 figures in drive-able condition. You can only imagine how much 930's and other older model 911's will end up fetching in another 10 years.

With this sort of stuck up mentality towards modifications, in comes Allan Meyers. Allan is a 35 year old in the tech industry that has always been into BMW's, but a few years ago he started his hunt for a 964 911. The hunt began as he saw the increase in prices and decided that if there was a time to buy, it was now. Sadly it took much longer that expected to find the one for him, even searching regularly it was a bit more than a year before he found this car. This is a car that at first glance looks like any other white 911, but you get hints of it's "impurities" with the wheels and then the Recaro seats.

Talking with Allan and going over the modifications the car has undergone reveals there has been much more work than what you think. Some done by previous owners, but most done under Allan's ownership.

Exterior: - Cultwerks RS splitters - Cultwerks RS brake ducts - BBS E88 18x8 and 18x10 wrapped in Michelin PS Cup 2 - World Motorsports titanium lugs Interior: - Recaro SRD seats - Deviated factory Guards Red seatbelts - Porsche Cup steering wheel - RS door panels and carpet - Rennline passenger airbag delete - Porsche classic radio Drivetrain/Suspension: - KW V3 coilovers - ERP camber plates - ERP RSR tie rods - Elephant racing 935 X Brace - Rothsport steering rack brace - Steve Wong chip - Wevo solid engine mounts - RS heather bypass - Secondary bypass pipe

From that list of mods it's hard to tell right away, but the car has undergone quite the diet. Losing around 250lbs out of a car that is already fairly light (Curb weight around 3000lbs) is no easy feat. Even going to the extent of taking all the sound deadening out to save as much as possible. This amount of weight saving and modification makes for a very raw and fun car to drive. It's not hard to see why these have become so popular over the last decade. As you look around the car more you'll notice a few choice things on the car that make it truly Allan's build. Nothing of major significance, but things that most purists would be very puzzled by. A sticker of Ice Cube and Chris Tucker from Friday don the quarter window opposite of the window covered in PCA member stickers, an Eazy-E air freshener hangs from the mirror, and lastly the fender protection flap for the gas fill has been swapped for one of Jerry Seinfeld's face (pictured with Allan a few photos above).

As for the future of this car, Allan has been battling a weak starter that he plans to have the car down and half pulled apart to deal with a few other issues while he's in the process of swapping that out. Things such as some repainting, bushing/seal replacements, and other regular preventative maintenance. For the most part, it's at a spot he's very happy with leaving it be for a while. It's always good to reach a certain point with a car that you don't feel a need to modify it more. But this leaves a need for something new, which Allan already has plans for. But you'll just have to wait for that.
