Is the StanceWars hype justified?

Updated: Jun 30, 2018

Before you get all riled up about the title, just hear me out. StanceWars Vegas was a great show, the turnout was large and the cars that attended were awesome. The thing that some don't realize however is that it's not as wild as it looks in videos or pictures. When you see drifting on a mountain pass or have huge groups cheering on burnouts at H20I you feel the hype and get more excited than when you watched a video on Youtube about it. Stancewars just isn't the same feeling.

I wanna give a big shoutout to Mike and the rest of the StanceWars crew for putting on the event, however I felt it could have been more organized with the awards, limbo, and other pieces of the event. It felt scattered and a little rushed for how big the event is. That paired with waiting around for "15 minutes" (actually an hour) for raffle tickets waiting in line at the merch booth 4 times to get told to check back later put me in a slightly sour mood.

The other thing about the hype around StanceWars is that it is still just a well put together car show. It's not a wild meet at an undisclosed location, or a big drift event with tons of energy. Everyone walks around, appreciates some awesome builds and has a good time. There's awesome vendors that come out and you can see the latest with wheels, sweet slaps, and clothes. It's just that the energy you seem to get from most forms of media doesn't correlate to how much there is once you're at the event.

What I love about the event is that you see so many amazing builds. Some very simple, and some taking years to complete (Like the rabbit above). For as much hate as stance cars get you still have to appreciate the time and the passion that tons of these cars and their owners have in them.

What I really appreciated about StanceWars Vegas this year is that for the Top100 they tried really hard to only allow cars with real parts. Whether that be wheels, bodykits, or engine parts it was very handpicked to support the manufacturers that worked hard on their designs and put that much more appreciation into a well done build. This level of exclusiveness put the cars on another plane of quality and made the Top100 that much more prestigious.

There were also some very cool builds in the VIP parking and even spilling out into the lot outside the event. I probably spent more time looking for what wasn't in Top100 than looking around Top100 but only because there's a lot more to look at than what's right up front.

Thanks again for a great show, will definitely be back again next year. Check out the extras below, definitely a lot of cool stuff that didn't make it into the story above.
