A taste of Formula Drift Seattle 2018

Walking up to Evergreen Speedway and hearing the sounds of two cars shredding the bank at 90mph, faintly feeling the wind as they rush by, is a sense of excitement I'll never forget. Formula Drift Seattle fulfilled all my hopes and dreams after following the series for years before I could even drive. Not only was this a sold out event, but it had some epic battles, countless one more times, and one of the coolest chase runs I've ever seen.

FD has always been a great event to attend, no matter the location, because it allows you to be much more involved than most motorsports as a spectator. There are open pit areas, so as you are in between runs you can walk down and see what vendors latest and greatest products are, meet the drivers, and see all their cars up close. This allows a much more involved and personable experience that keeps the sport alive and well.

Each one of the drivers here is more than happy to talk about cars, products, driving, and everything in between and I think this is a major reason that drifting has become so popular in the automotive world. Grassroots events pop up everywhere, allowing people with bone stock cars to come slide and enjoy this goofy sport. But the professional driving gives a chance to expose it to the world, allow more parts development, and continually progress the sport.

Another favorite aspect of these events being the cars, which I'll get more in depth with in another post. Getting up close to every detail and talking with the mechanics/engineers who build these cars is so captivating. Learning the struggles of certain setups, how things work and what they've done collectively to produce such rowdy and precise machines is worth the entry fee alone. Being able to see the variety of cars that are at the professional level not only shows the time and effort these teams put in but also the constant need for progression and innovation to stay competitive whilst also putting on a good show.

When it comes to the level of driving at these events it really show you how skilled you must be to slide a 1000+hp vehicle sideways, on a banked corner, at 90mph. The speed that these drivers carry into the infield is rarely conveyed in any form of media so experiencing it first hand creates a much higher respect for what these drivers do. If massive amounts of smoke pouring out of the rear of the car, massive angle, and freeway speeds sideways doesn't make you warm inside then maybe stray away from an event like this, however I do recommend you give it a shot.

I'll be including a few extras below but will also have another post covering some of the other parts of the FDSEA event soon! Enjoy
